Baking can be magical – but sometimes even the best recipes don’t turn out perfectly. That’s why I’ve put together my favorite 10 baking tips! These simple tricks and insights will help you bake smarter, avoid common mistakes, and make every cookie, cake, or dessert your best yet!

1: Butter Matters
- Why soft butter is different then melted – Soft butter holds air when creamed with sugar, creating fluffy cakes and tender cookies.
- Melted butter spreads too quickly and can make baked goods dense.
2: Why I Use Unbleached Flour
- Its less processed, better flavor, and gives a stronger dough structure.
- It also produces more consistent results for your baked goods.
3: Measure Ingredients Accurately
- Baking is chemistry – a small mistake can ruin texture.
- Use a digital scale for best results, or spoon & level cups carefully.
- This has been my favorite scale: https://amzn.to/42U5ylU
4: Salt Enhances Flavor
- Brings out sweetness and balances flavor, so using the right measurements are important.
- Use fine salt for inside of your baked goods, and coarse salt for toppings
5: Don’t Overmix
- Overmixing develops gluten, which can make cakes tough or cookies chewy
- Mix only until ingredients are combined
6: Watch Your Oven Temperature
- Oven accuracy is crucial for even baking
- Consider an oven thermometer for best results every time! Here is my favorite: https://amzn.to/3VKquYK
7: Eggs At Room Temperature
- Cold eggs can create lumps or uneven batter
8: Brown Butter Adds Flavor
- Gives a nutty, deep flavor to cookies and cakes.
- Use a light-colored pan, and remove from heat when the butter turns golden
9: Let Baked Goods Cool Properly
- All baked goods finish baking as they cool, so wait until they are brought to room temperature before you cut into them. It will taste and look way better!
- Use cooling racks to prevent soggy bottoms
10: Extra Tips
- Read the recipe fully before starting, that way you are confident that you have the right time and equipment.
- Take notes on what works. Everyone’s ovens bake differently, and depending on where you are at, different elevation and weather can actually effect your results.
